It Takes a Village…
A Safe Place would like to give thanks to the following businesses and organizations for their generosity and support during the giving season.
Thank you to Inky Santa’s Toy Drive, Wicked Island Bakery, Nantucket Cycling & Fitness, Nantucket Nutrition, Nantucket Cottage Hospital, and Island Energy Services for making the holidays a little more special in our island community.
“Giving Trees” setup at most of these locations during the holiday season allowed for the community to grant wish list items for families served specifically by A Safe Place.
A special thank you to Inky Santa and Island Energy Services, who ensured that holiday lists were also fulfilled for our A Safe Place families!

Healthy roots create a stronger and healthier community.
A Safe Place has been providing prevention education programs to Nantucket youth for nearly 30 years. Our programs are designed around age-appropriate information and skill building tools for pre school through high school. Currently, we are working with grades 5 & 6 at the Nantucket New School educating on boundaries and consent. In February of 2023, we will be back discussing harassment and bullying.
A special thank you to NNS’s health and wellness teacher, Claire Winship, for working so closely with A Safe Place on this program.
If you are interested in more information or to schedule youth education at your school or children’s program, please email us at info@asafeplacenantucket.org
A Safe Place is proud to be partnering with Nantucket Resource Partnership!
NRP’s Nourishing Nantucket program (in partnership with Pip & Anchor) provides a box full of fresh, local food to food insecure members of the Nantucket community, ensuring that families and individuals have the nourishment they need to be healthy and thrive.
Childhood trauma isn’t something you just get over as you grow up. Pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris explains that the repeated stress of abuse, neglect and parents struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues has real, tangible effects on the development of the brain. This unfolds across a lifetime, to the point where those who’ve experienced high levels of trauma are at triple the risk for heart disease and lung cancer. An impassioned plea for pediatric medicine to confront the prevention and treatment of trauma, head-on.
