A Safe Place, Inc. was founded in 1987 by five members of the Nantucket Women’s Bar Association. Since then, the agency has continued to provide free and confidential services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Over the years our programs have expanded to include specialized services for children whose lives have been impacted by violence in the home.
It is a shock to many that A Safe Place does not provide residential services. In fact, there is no shelter of any kind on Nantucket. What we do offer is information, caring, options and hope. We do not offer solutions, but we provide emotional support and resources needed to enhance safety and regain self-esteem.
Though our main program offerings are focused on crisis intervention, safety planning, and supportive counseling, we believe that teaching our community’s youth about healthy relationships is the only way to truly end domestic and sexual abuse.
