A Safe Place Welcomes New Nantucket Police Chief, Jody Kasper
The new Chief of Police for the Nantucket Police Department (NPD), Jody Kasper, recently sat down with Executive Director, Jennifer Frazee, and Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Program Manager, Frejae Burrows, to learn more about A Safe Place’s services and how our two agencies work together to support survivors in the community.
A collaborative effort of the NPD and A Safe Place that we are excited to continue working on together is The Beacon Project. This is a community partnership between the two agencies that allows us to work together to try to end violence by identifying victims earlier on in the cycle of abuse and offering them free and confidential services through A Safe Place.
For more information regarding The Beacon Project, please do not hesitate to reach out to info@asafeplacenantucket.org.
A Visit From Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois
A Safe Place continues to grow our relationship with Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J Galibois
and his office. He, alongside First District Attorney Jessica Elumba, Director of External Affairs Seth Rolbein, and Director of Community Programs Danielle Whitney, made a stop at A Safe Place last month to learn more about our impact within the community.
D.A. Galibois attended our Summer 2023 community speaking engagement featuring Dr. Jackson Katz this past July at St. Paul’s Church and we are looking forward to future collaborations with he and his team within community connection and education.

A Safe Place presents actor, speaker, and author April Hernandez Castillo at Nantucket High School as part of our youth prevention and community outreach.
April is best known for her role as “Eva” in the hit movie Freedom Writers, starring Hillary Swank. She has also starred in television shows such as Law & Order: SVU, Person of Interest, Dexter and New Amsterdam.
Using her platform as an actor and speaker has allowed April to be able to share her personal story of resilience and redemption with a wide array of audiences nationally and internationally. From growing up in the Bronx to being in an abusive relationship, to almost taking her own life, April’s story is one of inspiration and overcoming the odds.
April will be a keynote speaker for Nantucket High School (NHS) students on Tuesday, February 6, during the NHS school day. She will also host a parent/teacher workshop the same day at 6:00 PM at Nantucket High School. (This event is free to parents/guardians of Nantucket High School students as well as teachers and faculty. Additionally, we welcome staff from any of Nantucket’s private schools.)
Registration is appreciated but not required. If you would like to register, please email rachel@asafeplacenantucket.org or call 508.228.0561.
A special thank you to Nantucket Golf Club Foundation for helping to make this possible within our community.
